Sensory Processing Difficulties
Sensory Processing Difficulty is a condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to information that comes in through the senses. Sounds can sound horrible, textures in foods or clothing might be impossible to tolerate, or lights can be overwhelming. Formerly referred to as sensory integration dysfunction, it is not currently recognized as a distinct medical diagnosis. For many children with Sensory Processing Difficulties, early intervention and therapies lead to highly positive outcomes. With persistence, love, and proactive therapies, a child can improve to the point of having minor symptoms of Sensory Processing Difficulty or even having no difficulties at all.
